Etiquette is a shared language for respect, not a tool for ranking people.
Every gathering develops customs. The useful ones help people ask before touching, speak plainly about limits, respect privacy, and leave without having to justify themselves. Customs that prevent a person from saying no have lost their purpose.
Observe before assuming
Do not assume familiarity, role, invitation, or access from appearance. Ask what is welcome; accept the answer; and let another person set the pace of disclosure.
Protect the room after you leave it
Do not identify people, recount private details, or share images without permission. Discretion includes the absence of gossip as much as it includes the absence of a camera.
