Building Accessible and Inclusive Events
A structured approach to physical, sensory, communication, and operational accessibility.
Accessibility is not a single badge. It is structured, current information that helps someone decide whether they can participate.
Physical access
Describe entrances, steps, lifts, door widths, seating, toilets, parking, resting areas, and distances. Avoid saying “fully accessible” without explaining the specific conditions.
Sensory and communication access
State likely sound and lighting levels, quiet-space availability, scent policies, captioning, interpretation, written instructions, and how attendees can request adjustments.
Neurodiversity and predictability
Provide schedules, maps, arrival instructions, clear rules, and a named support route. Explain changes promptly and avoid forcing public disclosure of a diagnosis.
Inclusive operations
Train staff to respond respectfully, keep accommodation information private, and distinguish an access request from permission to share health information.
Continuous improvement
Collect optional feedback, review incidents, assign owners to corrections, and date every accessibility profile so outdated information can be identified.
